Christmas Tree Festival

Following on from the success of the railing wrap, Torrs Hydro asked me to collaborate with New Mills School Art Department again to create a tree for them for the Christmas Tree and Crib Festival at St. George's Church.

Torrs Hydro tree is a collaborative project, designed and created by pupils and staff from New Mills School working with local artist Amanda Whewell.

We have used reclaimed wood and metal objects collected from the Torrs Hydro site.

Birds are living on the branches. Messages, thoughts and secrets are hidden around the trunk.

Water has been used to enhance the lighting.

Our tree reminds us of the rich textile heritage of the area and looks forward to a sustainable future.

If you haven't had a chance to see the tree yet the Church is open today, Monday 12 December until 8pm, it's well worth a visit with over 30 trees and cribs on display from local schools, businesses and organisations.
